Oredockers Win Opener; Beat Bayfield, 57-46
The Ashland Oredockers won their boys basketball season-opener, defeating the Bayfield Trollers, 57-46, at the Bayfield High School gym on November 30. The Trollers outscored the Oredockers, 7-1, early on to take a 9-5 lead, but the Oredockers then went on a 23-3 run to grab their largest lead of the first half at 28-12. Ashland led, 32-18, at the break.

Early in the second half, the Oredockers took their biggest lead of the game at 40-19, but the Trollers turned up their defensive intensity and continued to cut into the Ashland margin. Bayfield went on a 21-6 run, closing the gap to just 6 points. But the Oredockers held on for an 11-point victory.
Ashland got balanced scoring, placing 4 players in double figures. Ethan Greene led the Oredockers with 16 points on two 3-point field goals and five 2-pointers. Sophomore Antoine Carter came off the bench to hit 7 field goals and a free throw for 15 points, while Marcus Kruzan and Xander Parduhn had 11 points each. Kruzan had only two field goals, but hit 7 of 8 from the free throw line, while Parduhn had two-3's, a 2-point field goal and made 3 of 4 from the line. Kade Jolma and Derek Ollanketo added two points each.

Bayfield was led in scoring by Duante Gordon, who had 7 field goals for 14 points. Aiden McKuen was also in double figures with 11 points on four 2-point field goals and one 3-pointer. Vincenzo Garramone and Ethan Gordon had 8 points each and Lennox LaPointe added 5.

Both teams had 21 field goals, with the Oredockers hitting four 3's to Bayfield two. Ashland won the game at the free throw line, hitting 11 of 19 from the charity stripe. Bayfield only went to the line 3 times, making two free throws.
