Oredockers Defeat Team SeaL in Season Opener
Ty Gilbertson had a Hat Trick and Braxton Zaleski added two goals as the Ashland Oredockers beat Chequamegon/Phillips Team SeaL in the boys hockey season-opener at the Price Ice Arena on November 22nd.

Team SeaL got on the board first just 2:41 into the opening period when Marcus Vittone scored unassisted. Gilbertson tied it 24 seconds later with an assist from Cody Lustig. Ashland then took the lead when Zaleski scored at the 8:55 mark with Dewey Zinnecker getting the assist, but Chequamegon/Phillips knotted the score just 17 seconds later when Mason Freiburger scored unassisted. Gilbertson got his second goal at 11:02 on the power play with help from Nolan Melek. Team SeaL again evened the score at 12:55 on Vittone's second goal with assists from Grant Kief and Zach Poetzl. The first period ended in a 3-3 tie.
A roughing penalty on the Oredockers early in the second period gave Chequamegon/Phillips a power play, and Team SeaL took the lead just 50 seconds into the period when Vittone completed his hat trick unassisted. The Oredockers evened the score on Zaleski's second goal at 3:42, unassisted. The period ended in a 4-4 tie.

Ashland then scored 2 goals in 28 seconds midway through the 3rd period to grab a 6-4 lead. Gilbertson got his hat trick at 8:16, with an assist by Kellen Trautt, and Lustig scored at 8:44 with Melek adding his second assist of the game. Justin Niece completed the scoring with a short-handed goal at 16:56, with assists going to Vittone and Kief.

Ashland outshot Chequamegon/Phillips 21-16, with Team SeaL's Chris Vittone making 15 saves and the Oredockers' Travis Alajoki turning back 11 shots. The Oredockers had two minor penalties for 4 minutes and Team SeaL had 3 penalties for 6 minutes. Ashland was 2 for 3 on the power play while Chequamegon/Phillips was 1 for 2.
